Cueva Horadada (Pierced Cave) in Yecla (Alicante)

The Cueva Horada (Pierced Cave) is located on Monte Arabi, at 22 km from Yecla and 113 km from Murcia. It can be visited freely and can be located easily by following the signs of the PR-MU 91.

From a distance you can see a large mouth, surrounded by rounded rocks and old pine trees. A cozy and mysterious place at the same time. As one approaches, one begins to see a certain clarity at the end of the cave, and at the same time the size of the mouth seems to increase. The entrance has a triangular, but rounded shape. Once you reach the cave you can see its real dimensions, which I estimate to be about 15 meters by 15 meters (on some websites they give even greater measurements). Entering the cave, the floor ramps up, steeper and steeper, but there is no feeling of fear or darkness. Looking up you can see a huge skylight, which illuminates the entire cave. I think the height of this room can easily be about thirty meters.

A short distance away there is another place of interest: an enclosure with cave paintings declared a World Heritage Site. It is completely fenced to ensure its protection. It seems that if you want to visit them you have to contact the Archaeological Museum in Yecla.

PERSONAL VISIT
Some years ago we visited this cave.

By the parking lot is a large welcome building, only it was closed then.

The access path to the cave. It looks endlessly, but it is "only" 410 meter to the cave entrance.

The views are beautiful.

At the side of the path there is a chasm.

Finally you reach a cabin where the tickets were sold.

Hypogenic morphology, one of the aspects that turns this cave into something unique .....

.... although the decorations are not lacking either.

We go deeper into the cave.

  Speechless.

 Stalactites, stalagmites, columns, etc.

The cave goes on.

The Cuevas del Marqués (Marquis Caves) in Caravaca de la Cruz (Murcia)

The Cuevas del Marqués (Marquis Caves) are in Caravaca de la Cruz, at 77 km from Murcia.
They are located in the Fuentes del Marqués Park (Marquis Springs) in Caravaca de la Cruz, a few minutes walk from the town center.

The caves consist of a straight tunnel through which the main path leads and various side galleries with chimneys that reach the surface. Although I remember that the straight tunnel seems partially carved by the hand of man, everything else shows a clear karst origin. Its galleries pierce the small calcareous mound that houses them, with numerous nooks and chimneys that give the place a special charm. The cave chimneys are usually protected with grids, to avoid possible falls from above. Although the cave is small, the side part is quite cozy, especially the area around the room with the stone staircase. These caves undoubtedly have a relict relationship with the various springs that arise in the park, which total flow of 320 liters per second indicates the outlet of an important aquifer. Below I give a description of the visit, accompanied by a series of photos.

The gallery on the right is the other side of the straight tunnel. The gallery on the left is the most interesting part of the cave.
